Atlanta, GA --
Today was the first ever blockbust of GM Love's OTHL career. Today he sent Pasi Nurminen and Atlanta's 3rd round pick in '04 to the Detroit Red Wings for Dom Hasek and Detroit's 3rd round pick in '04. This move gives the Thrashers one of the worlds best goalies and puts them directly in contention to be a playoff team this year.
"We did lose some years in the deal and we did pick up a few million extra dollars in salary. But we do have some plans to trade other players that will bring the pay roll back down and frankly Hasek is worth it. He is one of the best goalies in the league. That was one of my goals comming into this year. To get a top starting goalie who can give us good goaltending until Lehtonen is ready to take over. We want Hasek to finish his career in Atlanta and we want to keep him past this season". Commented GM Love.
This deal put the Thrashers into contention as a playoff team. Will the deal pay off or just be a big waste of money? Only time will tell, but one thing is for ure, GM Love has certainly begun to make it his team.
