Giant Killers Strike Again

Dylan McLaughlin

GM, New Jersey Devils

After taking down the Buffalo Sabres in triple overtime Sunday night, the Devils got a rude awakening in game 1 of the second round. Jose Theodore, a major factor in the Canadiens' first round upset over the Bruins, was even better against Jersey Tuesday night. The Devils controlled the play for most of the game and seemed to push the Habs around at will. They launched an attack against the Montreal goalie but came away with nothing. It was the Habs that finally scored, stealing the opening game of the series.

The Devils know they will have to even the series or risk giving the surprising Canadiens too much momentum. Coach Burns was asked what his team had to do differently in game 2, "Keep doing exactly what we did in game 1" he responded. "Theodore has been unbelievable for them, but if we keep tightning the screws, eventually their wall will crack. And besides, we have a pretty good French Canadian goalie as well."
