Sabres Make Changes

Jason Fisher

GM, Buffalo Sabres

[Buffalo, NY] ~ The Buffalo Sabres General Manager Jason Fisher was disgusted by his teams recent play, losing 4 of their last 6 games. A team that many predicted to be one of the best in the OTHL this year, is stuck in mediaocracy. Fisher, not wanting to see his team get off on the wrong foot this year, decided to make some changes, something not typical of his GM style. Over the weekend, the Sabres completed two trades.

The first was with St. Louis, where the Sabres sent RW Mike Grier to the Blues in exchange for LW Jason Chimera and STL 6th rounder in 07. Grier has 2 goals and 3 points with a plus 1 rating so far through 8 games for the Sabres. Chimera also has 2 goals for 2 points with a plus 3 rating through 6 games with the Blues. Chimera will add a little more offense than what Grier typically provides.

The second deal saw the Sabres make a deal with the Anaheim Ducks. The Sabres agreed to send LW Sean Avery, prospect Jeff Schultz, and a 3rd rd pick to Anaheim in exchange for the rights to prospect Drew Stafford, a 2nd rd pick, and a 4th rd pick. Stafford may sign with Buffalo shortly and spend this year in Rochester. The Sabres organization feels he has the potential to become a solid 2nd line player in the very near future. He has the type of energy that all coaches love, especially Lindy Ruff. Avery has played well this season, but has been hampered by injury. He has a goal and an assist in 3 games played this season. He is best known for his off ice antics, something the Sabres management had had enough off.

The Sabres are in action this Wednesday when they visit Anaheim in the two teams first meeting this season.
