The Wings announced today that they've fired head coach Dave Lewis. Lewis managed to take the team to the playoffs last season but failed to get past round one, which was of concern for Detroits new GM.
"Lewis is a good coach, with all around knowledge of the game. However, we felt that in order for us to take the next big step towards the cup, a coaching change was in order. We wish Mr. Lewis all the best in the future, and feel he will have no trouble finding a new job with another team in the OTHL." stated Wings GM.
The man who's taking over as the new bench boss has already been making headlines all over the news. The Wings managed to bring in none other than Wayne Gretzky. Financial terms of the deal have not yet been made available.
"Gretzky doesn't have much coaching experience, but after watching him help lead Team Canada to a handful of medals, we felt it was a no-brainer to sign him when the opportunity was made available. We feel Gretzky brings on ice experience, leadership in the locker room, and an amazing understanding of the game to this team. We're confident Gretzky can lead this team deep in the playoffs, and perhaps even bring the cup to Detroit."
GM O'Brien also stated that he had contacted a couple players with contract offers, but would not comment on which players those were.
