Islanders Make Offseason Blockbuster

James Jones

GM, New York Islanders

In a recent blockbuster deal, the Islanders have finally picked up a goalie who is signed for next season. However, this deal is much more than that. In a deal with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, the Islanders sent disappointing prospect Andrew Ladd, forward Martin Straka, a first round pick, and a sixth round pick for prospect Alexander Radulov, Ilja Bryzgalov, a 2nd round draft pick and a 4th round draft pick. In Bryzgalov, the Islanders have picked up a highly touted netminder who could step in as a full time solution at anytime. Right now he is slated as the #1 netminder, but that should change as the offseason progresses. In Radulov, the Islanders have another winger prospect to add to their growing list of young talent. If it wasn't apparent before, this move really solidifies the team's desire to compete in 2006 or 2007. Many more moves are expected as the team dangles their draft picks out there, as well as many players and prospects.
