Best of five

Mårten Eriksson

GM, Phoenix Coyotes

The Phoenix Coyotes managed to bounce back from their poor performance in game one, and played a perfect game defensively in game two. The abscence of Kim Johnsson did not hurt the defense as much as had been feared before the game. In fact the Coyotes played most of the game without Marcus Ragnarsson too, another of their top defensemen, who was injured in the middle of the first period. He is now expected to miss the reminder of the playoffs. Kim Johnssons injury is not as bad as first feared however, and he is expected to return shortly. A member of the Coyotes medical staff said that "it will be a game-time decision on whether he can play", when asked if Kim would return in any of Phoenix upcoming two homegames.

The two big stars of the game was without a doubt Mats Sundin and Dwayne Roloson, the two players who might have received most of the blame for the loss in game one. After that subpar game, both players seem to once again have found their form that has made them candidates for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs. After Sundins two goals tonight, he is now five points ahead of Shane Doan who still finds himself in second place in the scoring race. With eleven goals, four of them gamwinners, during the playoffs Sundin is really showing his worth to Phoenix.

Games three and four will be played in Phoenix, in what is now a best-of-five series. Each game becomes even more important than earlier, and every mistake can be game-deciding.
