February 11th / 2005 the Minnesota Wild went out and picked up disgruntled defenceman Sandis Ozolinsh from the Calgary Flames adding much needed depth and scoring from the point. Once again the Wild have sacrificed much of their bluechip talent to be a contender and not a pretender for the championship. " We are so close right now to putting it all together, Injuries for the most part have really put us back a step, but we will not give up. Parting ways on such prospects as AJ ( Thelan ) and Josh ( Harding ) were very difficult for us but it is the price one must pay sometimes to get to the top. Also the loss of another disgruntled defenceman Quintal was part of the deal. Quintal just never seemed to fit the plans here in Minnesota and his play as of late has led brass to believe he may be on his way out soon. More trades are possible. Speaking on the phone from the airport last night Sandis was reported as to say Minnesota looks like a team that wants to win and I cannot wait to get into this type of atmosphere and do my thing to help them out. I am not getting any younger and I do wnat a shampionship ring on my hand before i depart this league.
