PHILLY (AP) -
The Philadelphia Flyers currently sit in fifth place in the eastern conference, but GM Matt MacInnis, who took control of the team just days into the regular season, has made it crystal clear that he has ambitions to finish much higher this year and make a run very deep into the playoffs.
"We're doing alright as of this moment in a very tough conference, but that does not mean I am satisfied with our current position," said the normally relaxed manager.
The team has several great young players available, including both members of the goaltending battery currently represeenting Team Canada at the World Junior Championships. They also have Canada's captain, Mike Richards, who is rumoured to be available for the right price. Richards has been one of the best players in the tournament at this extremely early stage.
"I really like what Mike brings to the game, but he's still five-six years away from being that kind of force in the OTHL (as he is in the WJC), and we aren't going to be waiting that long. We have a great team right now and right now we need to go for the glory."
